Born: Feb. 14, 1952 in Beaumont, Texas
Olympic and Golden Glove boxer James Anthony "Bubba" Busceme graduated from South Park High School in 1970, where he lettered in track.
He began boxing in Beaumont and entered his first Golden Gloves competition in 1959 at the age of seven. Although he came in 57th that year, he remained steadfast.
He entered his second Golden Gloves in 1962. Busceme eventually became a five-time state Golden Gloves champion (1968-1972) and a four-time Golden Gloves national champion. He also won a bronze medal at the 1971 Pan American Games in Cali, Columbia, and competed in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany.
Busceme boxed professionally from 1974 to 1976. After a short hiatus he again entered the ring in 1979 and remained active until 1983.
With the support of his hometown fans, in 1982 he unsuccessfully fought Alexis Arguello in Beaumont for the world championship title. Busceme is currently a manufacturing representative for a Beaumont sportswear company.
