Bishop Sarah Frances Taylor Davis

Bishop Davis was born an identical twin to Cornelius and Thelma Taylor on February 4, 1948 in Port Arthur, TX. She was the 1966 Class President of her high school Lincoln High School.
Bishop Davis was President of the Council of Bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Vice President of the World Methodist Council and the Presiding Prelate of the 16th Episcopal District (comprised of the Caribbean, Europe and Haiti) of the African Methodist Episcopal Church at the time of her death.

Bishop Davis was the third woman to be elected a bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, she was the vice president of the World Methodist Council and the presiding prelate of the 16th Episcopal District, which includes churches and schools in South America, the Caribbean and Europe. As a result of her leadership, a day of prayer in African Methodism is now an annual observance. Her first assignment was to the 18th Episcopal District, including Southern African countries, where she was an advocate of the power of education and a champion for orphaned children. She most recently was focused on rebuilding orphanages and churches in Haiti. She was the first woman in Texas to be appointed to a major A.M.E. church when she served for seven years as the pastor of the Bethel A.M.E. Church in San Antonio.

Bishop Sarah was on a mission to transform minds, empower lives and change the world. The Bishop Sarah Davis Foundation has been established to perpetuate her legacy of providing hope, healthcare, education and housing to orphans and other populations of vulnerable women and children domestically and internationally.

Bishop Davis was known and referred to as Prayer Bishop.
