As southeast Texas gears up for Mardi Gras celebrations, the Museum will join in this centuries-old party with an NEH on the Road touring exhibition called ¡Carnaval! The exhibition features 130 objects and provides windows into eight communities in Europe and the Americas where carnival is a high point of the yearly cycle.

Permanent Exhibits
Mission Statement 
It is the mission of the Museum of the Gulf Coast to collect, preserve, display and interpret the history of the coastal region between Houston and New Orleans.

Summary of Exhibits
Exhibits interpret the history, natural history, art and popular culture of the Gulf Coast. Highlights include the largest indoor mural in the Southwest depicting the history of the region from prehistory to the discovery of oil at Spindletop, Music and Sports Halls of Fame, the John and Grace Snell Gallery of Decorative Art, the Robert Rauschenberg Gallery and much more!

The Boudin Trail

February 16, 2012



The Museum will mark the opening day of Mardi Gras festivities in southeast Texas with a mini-exhibit celebrating one of the region's most popular foods. Free boudin balls will be available at 4 p.m. on Thursday.The exhibit will remain on view through March 29, 2012.
