Pitcher Charles "Chuck" McElroy was born in Galveston, Texas in 1967 and moved to Port Arthur at an early age. He was graduated from Lincoln High School, where he set the school record for strike-outs (238) as a senior in 1986. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1986 and was traded by the Phillies with pitcher Bob Scanlan to the Chicago Cubs in 1991 for pitcher Mitch Williams. McElroy now pitches for the Cincinnati Reds.
