Born in Port Arthur "Stormy" Johnson graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School before continuing on to earn an M.D. degree at the U.T.M.B. Galveston, where he did his internship. After a stint in the U.S. Army, during which he served a tour in Vietnam, Daniel returned stateside to train in diagnostic radiology at the renowned Oschner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. He is board certified as a diagnostic radiologist and is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. He has served as Clinical Professor of Radiology and Otolaryngology at Tulane University, and was co-founder and President of the American Society of Head and Neck Radiology. Additionally, he has been a Past President and Past Chair of the Board of New Orleans Radiology Society. In Louisiana, where he still resides, Dr. Johnson chaired the Louisiana State Medical Society's (LSMS) committees on long-range planning, advertising and fee complaints, and development of alternative delivery systems. He is a past Speaker and Vice Speaker for the (LSMS) House of Delegates, having served eleven years in various posts, including past President of that Society. He us a founding member of the Louisiana Medical Mutual Insurance Co. and Past Chair and Treasurer if the Louisiana Medical Political Action Committee. In June 1995, he was selected the President- Elect of the American Medical Association, where he served as President during 1996 and 1997. For many years prior to that time, he severed as delegate, and afterwards, as Vice Speaker. As such, he has been active in health system reform, especially as a lecturer on subjects such as pluralism and patient choice to improve cost effectiveness. For many years he served on the boards of the Louisiana State Museum and its support group, the Friends of the Cabildo. He is married to the former Susan Wheeler of Abilene, Texas.
