Clifton Chenier
Born: June 25, 1925 - Opelousas, Louisiana
Died: December 12, 1987

Singer and instrumentalist: accordian, harmonica, organ, and piano. Acknowledged as the "King of Zydeco". Moved to Port Arthur, Texas (1946) and worked at the Gulf refinery. Formed band and played in th4e clubs of the bayou country of southeast Texas and Louisiana (1940's and 1950's). Worked festival, club, television, and concert dates (1960's and 1970's). National hit recordings were "Bopping the Rock" (1955), and "Eh Petite Fille" (Hey Little Girl). Albums include Live at St. Marks, and Zydeco Legend.
