The Museum offers several interactive hands-on workshops that give Boy Scout Troops an opportunity to connect with Gulf Coast heritage and culture through exhibit tours, role playing, and hands-on activities. By attending one of the workshops, Boy Scouts can work towards completing Activity and Merit Badge Requirements
Webelos may choose one of the following workshops:Artist Activity BadgeUnleash the artist within us all with a lesson on world renowned artist and Port Arthur native Robert Rauschenberg. Youth will become proteges of Rauschenberg as they explore the museum's permanent gallery of his work, study his techniques and seek artistic inspiration. Youth will also try their hand at some of Rauschenberg's most innovative techniques including silk-screening, collage and found art.

COST: $35 per group
Naturalist Activity BadgeBoy Scouts will delve into the natural history exhibit at the Museum and learn about native plants and animals and the ecosystems that they live in. Youth will complete the workshop by setting up and learning to take of their own hermit crab terrarium. Workshop fee includes LIVE hermit crab.

COST: $25 per scout
Boy Scouts may choose one of the following workshops:Archeology Merit BadgeDiscover the world beneath our feet with this lesson in archeology. After youth tour the museum's natural history and Native American exhibits, they will become archeologists as they conduct their own dig, preserve and identify the artifacts they find, and interpret their findings to one another. Youth will also engage in other hands-on activities such as making their own fossils and rocks.

Indian Lore Merit BadgeBoy Scouts will step back in the past and learn about the native Attakapan Indians that called Southeast Texas home. Youth will tour the Museum's Native American exhibit and then complete the workshop with hands-on activities that include handling Native American artifacts, learning to hunt like Native Americans, and more.

COST: $35 per group
Terms & Conditions for Workshops:All workshops must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance and must be conducted Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Evening hours and weekends are available on request. A deposit of $10 is due 10 business days before the date of the program. A confirmation form will be faxed upon receipt of the deposit. The remaining fee will be due on the day of the visit. The museum accepts cash, check or credit. Deposits will not be refunded in the event of a cancellation.
Webelo workshops last approximately 2 hours and Boy Scout Workshops last approximately 2.5 hours. Workshops do not include a tour of the entire museum. However, if you have additional time, your group is welcome to tour the rest of the museum at no additional charge.

General Tours: In addition to workshops, Boy Scouts are welcome to schedule a general tour of the Museum. We offer a guided tour that delves into this regions rich history and ends with a scavenger hunt and prizes. All tours cost $2 a scout and need to be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance with the tour coordinator 982-7000.
Addtional Programs: Ask about an Activity Badge or Merit Badge and we may able to tailor a workshop just for you!!! We have resources for various subjects, including arts and crafts, science, history, music, & more!!! We may also be able to run a Boy Scout Overnight in the future (see the
